Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing, lead times, line-ups, equipment and travel — answered.

Everything we are asked most often about booking Punjabi entertainment — pricing, lead times, line-ups, equipment and travel. If your question is not here, ask us directly.

Booking

How far in advance should I book?

For weddings and major events we recommend around twelve months ahead, because prime dates in wedding season go early. That said, shorter notice is always worth asking about — we accommodate last-minute bookings wherever availability allows.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is bespoke and quoted per event. It depends on which services you book, the size of the line-up, the running order and the travel involved, so there is no fixed price list. Send us your event details and we will quote against them.

How do I get a quote?

Use the enquiry form on the contact page, or email info@punjabifolkentertainment.com. The more you can tell us — date, venue, guest numbers, what you are planning — the more accurate the first quote will be.

What do you need to know to quote accurately?

The date, the venue and its location, roughly how many guests you expect, which services you are interested in, and where the performance sits in the running order. If you have a planner or coordinator, putting us in touch with them directly speeds things up.

Can we book more than one service?

Yes, we offer packages. Our Silver package includes a dhol player and our Gold package includes a DJ. Booking together means the handovers between singers, dhol and DJ are planned in advance rather than improvised on the night.

On the day

Do you bring your own sound equipment?

Yes. We provide specialist sound equipment for live vocals, and we bring and set it up ourselves. Sound and lighting for a DJ set come as part of our packages.

How many performers will come?

Every line-up is bespoke. We bring as many performers as the event calls for, matched to the style and scale of the celebration, and agree the numbers with you when we discuss your event.

Can we choose the songs?

Yes, and it makes a real difference. Set lists are built with you in advance from traditional Punjabi folk, boliyan, Pakistani classics, Bollywood and modern fusion. Send your must-plays and your do-not-plays — the second list is often the more useful one.

Do you coordinate with our venue and planner?

For larger bookings, such as an international Sangeet, yes. We coordinate with the venue, your planner or coordinator and any other suppliers so performances happen on cue and fit the running order.

Services

What is a Ladies Sangeet?

A Ladies Sangeet is the women’s celebration held in the days before a Punjabi or Pakistani wedding, built around singing, dholki rhythms and dancing.

Are all your Ladies Sangeet performers female?

The singers who lead a Ladies Sangeet are female. Accompanying musicians, including dholki players, are not always. If the evening needs to be women only throughout, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm what we can arrange for your date.

What is a dhol?

The dhol is a double-headed drum from Punjab, played with two sticks and worn on a strap so the player can move with a procession. It produces the driving rhythm associated with bhangra and Punjabi celebration.

Do you play for baraat processions?

Not directly, but we can organise dhol players for your baraat through a third party. Mention it when you enquire.

Do you perform at events other than weddings?

Yes — melas and cultural festivals, community and charity events, corporate functions, engagement and birthday parties, and concert bills.

Travel

What areas do you cover?

We perform nationwide across the UK, and we also take international bookings.

Do you charge extra for travel?

No — travel is factored into the quote up front rather than added afterwards, so the figure you are given is the figure you pay.

Do you travel internationally?

Yes. International bookings are quoted individually to cover travel, accommodation and any arrangements needed at the destination. Enquire as early as you can, as these involve more planning than domestic bookings.

Still have a question?

Send it over with your event details and we will come back to you.
